Pace is the time it takes to cover a specific distance, typically measured in minutes per mile or minutes per kilometer. It's the inverse of speed—while speed tells you how fast you're going (distance per time), pace tells you how much time it takes to cover a unit of distance.
Pace (min/mile) = Total Time (minutes) ÷ Distance (miles)
Speed (mph) = Distance (miles) ÷ Total Time (hours)
If you ran 5 miles in 40 minutes:
Pace: 40 minutes ÷ 5 miles = 8:00 per mile
Speed: 5 miles ÷ 0.667 hours = 7.5 mph
